  • Job Summary

    • The clinician is a professional who is an expert in the care of a specified patient population/subspecialty area. The clinician assumes a leadership role and supervisory responsibilities in the development, organization, and implementation of care services for the specified patient population.

  • Education

    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
      OR

    • Graduate of an accredited program by the American Dietetic Association

  • Experience

    • For RN Candidates:

      BSN degree with a minimum of four years of recent clinical nursing experience, preferably in pediatrics, preferably in outpatient setting.

    • OR MSN degree with a minimum of three years recent nursing experience, preferably in pediatrics, preferably outpatient setting.

      Will Consider: ADN degree with a minimum of five years recent nursing experience; a minimum of 3 years in pediatric subspecialty preferred.

    • FOR RD Candidates:

      Master’s degree in food and nutrition from a program accredited by the American Dietetic Association with at least 12 months of clinical nutrition work experience preferred, pediatric experience preferred, and certification in area of specialization preferred.

      OR

      Bachelor’s degree in nutrition from a program accredited by the American Dietetic Association and certification in area of specialization (CDCES) with 2 years of clinical nutrition work experience required, pediatric experience preferred. Completion of a pediatric nutrition traineeship preferred, but not required.

  • Licensures, Certifications, and/or Registries

    • Current RN License in the State of Alabama 
      OR

    • Licensed by the State Board of Examiners for Dietetics/Nutrition Practice in the State of Alabama required. Registered Dietitian by the Commission of Dietetics Registration required.

    • Current BLS certificate required, BLS Instructor preferred.

    • Certified Diabetes Care Education Specialist (CDCES) required or must obtain within 2 years.

Additional Information

The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes at Children’s of Alabama provides comprehensive evaluation and diagnostic treatment of a broad range of pediatric endocrine and diabetes disorders. This is a high volume, fast-paced clinic that features 30 clinical exam rooms, 6 triage bays, 2 stimulation testing rooms, 1 procedure room, and 3 classrooms to be able to accommodate a large volume of patients. The Endocrine Clinic is supported by 12 Endocrinologists, 6 Fellows, and 10 Nurse Practitioners. The Endocrine Clinic also has multiple areas of support staff including Diabetes Educators, Insulin Pump Educators, Clinic Nurses, Endocrine Nurses, Clinic Aides, and Secretarial staff.
