  1. The Registered Dietitian/Inpatient Diabetic Educator provides assessment, planning, facilitation, and advocacy for optimal clinical and financial outcomes. In collaboration with the attending practitioner, the family and other members of the health care team, coordinates the individualized plan of care and communicates the plan to appropriate stakeholders. The Registered Dietitian/Inpatient Diabetic Educator assists with appropriate use of resources both within the facility and external to the facility. Communication and collaboration may include coordinating admissions with referring facilities and providers, utilization review, discharge planning, transportation, and care coordination. The Registered Dietitian/Inpatient Diabetic Educator ensures that high quality care is provided as efficiently and cost effectively as possible.

Additional Information

Education

  1. Registered Dietitian required

●Master’s degree in food and nutrition from a program accredited by the American Dietetic Association with at least 12 months of clinical nutrition work experience preferred, pediatric experience preferred, and certification in area of specialization preferred.

●OR Bachelor’s degree in nutrition from a program accredited by the American Dietetic Association and certification in area of specialization (CDCES) with 2 years of clinical nutrition work experience required, pediatric experience preferred. Completion of a pediatric nutrition traineeship preferred, but not required.

  1. At least 1 year experience with a focus on pediatrics preferred.

  1. Licensed by the State Board of Examiners for Dietetics/Nutrition Practice in the State of Alabama required. Registered Dietitian by the Commission of Dietetics Registration required.
  2. Current BLS certificate required, BLS Instructor preferred
  3. Certified Diabetes Care Education Specialist (CDCES) required or must obtain within 2 years.
