The Technical Engineer Architect position will manage and service a large scale of endpoint devices such as desktops, laptops and VDI devices and will participate in the recommendation, ordering, and testing of future software/hardware to increase productivity. The individual in this position must be able to understand and implement endpoint user controls for many devices using VMWare Horizon, group policies and be proficient in several management consoles essential for Architecting designing and management of the Windows Desktop environment. The individual in this position must be highly motivated, a self-starter, organized, able to multi-task and able to work in a fast paced IT environment. A high level of technical problem solving skills, strong customer service skills, excellent verbal and written skills, the ability work well with team members and customers throughout the organization is required. Being on-call periodically and assisting with mid to major go-lives and system upgrades after regular business hours will be required.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage and service a large scale of endpoint devices such as desktop / laptops and VDI devices
  • Understanding and implementation of endpoint user controls for many devices using group policies.
  • Prioritizes and resolves technical issues. Provides ongoing analysis, maintenance, and technical support for systems throughout the organization. Provides input and guidance to identify system deficiencies and analyze system problems and solutions.
  • Architect and deploy VMware Horizon Cloud environments.
  • Co-architect, deploy, and maintain cloud based VDI environments, including AWS Workspaces, Azure, and VMWare Cloud on AWS.
  • Architect and deploy RDSH virtual applications in the VMware Horizon Cloud environment.
  • Deploy profile management with VMware DEM.
  • Creation and maintenance of VDI master images.
  • Creation and maintenance of persistent and non-persistent desktop pools.
  • Creation and maintenance of RDSH virtual applications.
  • Perform daily VDI administration, maintenance and upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations.
  • Create and maintain processes, procedures, documentation and associated training plans for systems administration and operations teams.
  • Analyze and isolate problems and issues while leading problem bridges while being available for 3rd level on call support when needed.
  • Enhance and improve existing infrastructure through automation and reporting.
  • Collaborate effectively with a team, utilizing excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Successfully deliver projects, meet project milestones, and communicate issues/risks appropriately.
  • Take handoff of problems from SME leads and work them independently to root cause.
  • Own Root Cause Analysis and Problem Management for corporate Identity Management environment.
  • Create and maintain system documentation for domain technologies, including installation, configuration, and appropriate troubleshooting steps.
  • Improve existing processes through solutions to recurring problems and enhancements to existing solutions or documentation.
  • Participate in the recommendation, ordering, and testing of future software / hardware to increase productivity.
  • Attend project meeting as related to desktop services or other related duties.
  • Perform special projects and other duties that may be assigned by management
  • Ability to Mentor and educate to improve team’s knowledge and skills
  • May be requires to assist with minor server related upgrades, installations, and decommissions.
  • Participation on on-call rotation.
  • Ensure mid to large scale project tickets are handled in a timely manner.
  • Detailed documentation is created and maintained on a regular basis
  • Report progress of any outstanding projects to directors, managers and appropriate personnel.
  • Must have significant Microsoft Windows Packaging and Administration, Engineering and Infrastructure Knowledge
  • Must have proven End User interaction with various End Users and able to maintain ticket SLA's for responding to User Requests promptly
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to communicate with individuals with all levels of technical and non-technical skill sets (i.e. Developers, Project Managers, and external Customers)
  • Must display the ability to interact effectively in a cross-functional team maintaining and leveraging strong work relationships
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills
  • Software troubleshooting ability for problem research and error isolation
  • Good listening skills, problem-solving and the ability to handle multiple projects/clients at once in a fast-paced environment
  • The ability to handle objections and counter professionally

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (Computer Science) or related field required OR a valid combination of education/experience/certification in lieu of degree will be considered.
  • 10 or more years of experience in Information Systems.
  • Master level knowledge of supporting, managing and implementing Microsoft Windows 10 Operating Systems
  • 7+ years of experience in Virtual Desktop administration using VMware Horizon 7.x. and Virtualization infrastructure operations using VMware vSphere 6.x, AWS Workspaces, and Microsoft Azure WVD.
  • 5+ years of experience in Virtual Application packaging and remediation using VMware Horizon RDSH application, App Volumes and ThinApp including writable AppVolume experience. VMWare Dynamic Environment Manager/DEM aka User Environment Manager/UEM
  • 2+ Experience deploying and maintaining Windows 10 desktop platforms.
  • Experience deploying applications via RDSH.
  • 7+ Experience with comprehensive understanding of Windows Active Directory, Groups and Policies
  • 5+ Ability to self-direct , while coordinating with others to complete team project tasking's and investigate issues under limited supervision

  Licensures, Certifications, and/or Registries

  • VMWare Horizon professional VCAP certification preferred
  • Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) preferred
  • CompTIA A+ Certification preferred
  • Desktop Support Technician Certification preferred
  • VCA (VMWare Certified Associate) preferred

  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Competent working knowledge of the following enterprise systems (Active Directory, VMWare Horizon View Client, Groups Policy, Ivanti ticketing, AppSense or something comparable, Microsoft Print Management, Trend Micro Anti-virus software, DNS, Bomgar Remote Access Tool something comparable, VMWare Horizon Administrator View. Citrix, End-Point Security, SCCM)
  • PXE Boot configuration management
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn server driven applications and databases
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn established security and availability management policies
  • Proven excellent interpersonal skills, to include building and maintaining interdepartmental relationships
  • Capability of briefing management on project status
  • Experience using Installation and Configuration Management best practices
  • PowerShell and custom scripting is a plus but not required
  • Inventory Management experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of networking, switches and routers is a plus
  • Ability to travel to some COA remote sites if necessary.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Any documented project management skills are a plus
  • Strong relationship building skills, team building, and the ability to be a quick starter with little supervision.
