Involved in overseeing and executing the visual design of the Children’s of Alabama internet and intranet and related websites. Researches, plans, implements, evaluates projects relating to these sites. Implements a customer-based, user-centered design approach while using web design software to coordinate layout and graphical components of sites and creates aesthetically pleasing user experiences that are intuitive to navigate and interact with. Balances usability and customer needs and best practices, including cultural factors, to align with Children’s strategic goals and objectives. Works in conjunction with the Strategic Communications and Marketing team to ensure and maintain consistent and appropriate branding and standards of excellence in quality control.  Serves as primary, senior coordinator for web design strategic communications, internal and external – supporting Children’s media relations, social media, employee communications, foundation, and corporate communications and marketing teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop new concepts and experiences for web, design and create mockups, layouts, templates, wire frames and other web assets; evaluate effectiveness of existing designs and recommend changes to improve them through user research and testing
  • Works on design projects, from conception to completion
  • Designs original pieces, including illustrations and infographics
  • Refine images, fonts and layouts using graphic design software
  • Apply typography techniques
  • Generate ideas to portray concepts and advertise products/services
  • Increase user friendliness in digital products
  • Maintain brand consistency throughout all our marketing projects
  • Liaise with marketing, content and design teams to ensure deadlines are met
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments, tools and trends
  • Meet with clients in partnership with Web Projects Lead
  • Create and test and troubleshoots webpages and websites within the CMS
  • Provides consistent updates to content featured within webpages and other digital mediums
  • Works alongside the Web Projects Lead in creating strategies to proactively drive innovation with new options via upcoming technologies.
  • Supports the other teams within the department on initiatives requiring digitally aesthetic outputs for the varying internal and external clients
  • Supports the Digital Communications and Content team to develop and deliver digital assets and designs as needed
  • Develop new concepts and experiences for web, design and create mockups, layouts, templates, wire frames and other web assets; evaluate effectiveness of existing designs and recommend changes to improve them through user research and testing
  • Provide web design and UX consultation with department groups and affiliates as assigned and/or as needed.
  • Be a steward and visionary for the COA brand to ensure that all web design experiences, assets, elements, projects, etc. meet the quality standards and expectations of Children’s.
  • Assesses new standards, technologies, trends and recommends plans for future development and changes to web environment; develops and implements strategies in conjunction with Web Team and Strategic Communications leadership.
  • Serve as team player representing COA in a positive and professional manner consistent with COA and departmental goals.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Design, Visual Arts, or relevant field.
  • Proven work experience as a Senior Web Designer, Graphic Designer or similar role
  • Portfolio and/or visual representation of completed design projects
  • Hands-on experience with Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator and
    InDesign – XD experience a plus
  • Experience and knowledge of web development tools such as html, xhtml, flash, javascript and CMS. Media and video applications experience a plus
  • Adobe Creative Suite design experience preferred. Knowledge and experience using XD or similar wireframe/prototype application is a plus.
  • Strong aesthetic skills with the ability to combine various colors, fonts and layouts
  • Strong communications skills (verbal, nonverbal, written, and visual)
  • Ability to meet deadlines and collaborate with a team
  • Attention to visual details
