PNP CVICU

Job Summary:

• The Nurse Practitioner is a registered professional nurse with advanced education, training, and experience related to a specified patient population. This individual has advanced education and training in the care of the at-risk infant. This individual works in collaboration with the CVICU Medical Director, staff cardiologists, the Division Director of Nursing, the Department Director and staff nurses. Major areas of responsibility include the provision of direct medical care to at risk and critically ill infants, the emergency stabilization of critically ill infants, participation in neonatal transports, participation in staff development and education, and participation in parent education and discharge planning.

Education:

• MSN with subspecialty in Pediatric Nursing and completion of an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certificate Program.
• Must meet the qualifications for approval to practice as a nurse practitioner according to the Alabama Board of Nursing.

Experience:

• 2 years of nursing experience and experience in the subspecialty area preferred.
• Previous demonstration of expert clinical, management, teaching, research, and consultation skills.

Licensure, Certifications, and/or Registries:

• Must be certified to practice as a nurse practitioner by the Alabama Board of Nursing
• Current RN Licensure in the State of Alabama.
• CPNP-AC through PNCB Certification.
• Current BLS/PALS certification

 

Additional Information

The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit is a 20-bed unit with 4 dedicated ECMO suites.  The CVICU provides state of the art care for neonatal and pediatric patients with acquired or congenital heart disease that require intensive care management or close monitoring for conditions such as: co-morbidities of congenital or acquired heart disease; pre and/or post-operative cardiac surgery patients; dysrhythmias; cardiomyopathy; pre and post-operative care of cardiac transplants; and patients requiring Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD) or Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO).  Please visit www.childrensal.org/heart for more information.
